Talk Is Jericho - The Revival of The Revolt Episode Notes

The Revolt (formerly known as The Revival) recently appeared on the latest episode of Talk Is Jericho to discuss their new identity, exit from WWE, Dusty Rhodes, the proposed gimmick WWE pitched to them, what the future holds for them and much more. Below are notes from the episode.

  • Cash/Dax are both happier than they have ever been

  • Changing names has been a difficult transition since Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson were their names for 6 years

  • Dusty originally liked the name Dash because of Dashing Cody Rhodes

  • Dusty Rhodes was The Revival's biggest supporter

  • Two days before Dusty passed away, he called Dawson the best wrestler NXT had, bar none

  • Dusty would pull the two out of class to eat homemade ice cream

  • Cash/Dax bonded over their appreciation of classic wrestling, but specifically their love of Bret Hart

  • The last meeting with Vince, the Chairman was surprised the two were so well-spoken

  • The two noted Vince was actually very complimentary of the duo

  • The duo originally asked for their release in mid-January of 2019

  • Long-term, they feel there is not enough attention paid to the tag-team division in WWE

  • The two never complained and just wanted more focus on the tag-team division, so they could all make money

  • They wanted proof that the tag-team division as a whole would receive more tv time (character development/promo/segment time etc) and respect

  • They did not want to just collect a paycheck without any change

  • The duo believe they were kept around due to the lingering threat of leaving for another company such as AEW

  • Vince presented Cash/Dax with characters that were less than desirable to them

  • The vision was for them to be a comedy team, which they immediately shot down

  • The original pitch for the comedy gimmick was for the two to feel tag-team wrestling has been made a mockery, so they dressed and acted that way out of spite.

  • They both noted the boys and girls in the back wouldn't leak this, but rather, creative team members.

  • The Revival was pulled off the road despite agreeing to the comedy gimmick until their contracts ran out

  • The numbers of $750,000 were actually incorrect and they were offered more than that

  • Dax always wanted to give back to wrestling, since it gave so much to him

  • The two were committed to leaving no matter even if that meant turning down the substantial money offers

  • Cash noted if he could pay his bills, he’s fine and would rather contribute and earn his money as opposed to sitting back and remaining complacent

  • Dax admitted, “maybe we are too prideful”

  • Cash noted that they took inspiration from Chris Jericho, Christian, Eddie and others for betting on themselves and took a leap of faith

  • Jericho noted that much like Mox said, you cannot put a price on being happy

  • Dax noted the day they were released, he received a text message from Bret Hart saying how proud he was of them and how proud he was that they stood up for themselves

  • Dax noted that Bret’s words were validation

  • Jericho brought up the pandemic and how it likely stalled their decision but asked where they would like to call home

  • Dax mentioned how they aren’t in a rush to find a home yet but did mention Ring of Honor, AEW, New Japan, Impact etc

  • Cash brought up The North, The Young Bucks and a few other teams they would love to face

  • The two are excited to sit back and enjoy some time off without rushing into a decision

  • Jericho noted that tag-team wrestling is featured everywhere else except for WWE

  • Jericho asked about the Young Bucks and the origin of “Fuck the Revival” which Dax felt likely came from competitiveness

  • The Revival (now The Revolt) have never met the Young Bucks face to face

  • Jericho loves the fact they are still weighing their options

  • Chris brought up how their style is such a throwback in 2020

  • Dax believes Dennis and Bobby (The Midnight Express) are the epitome of tag-team wrestling

  • The two do not want to outshine each other since it’s a team effort

  • Cash hates the analogy of who is the Marty Jannetty since Marty was an incredible work, which Chris Jericho wholeheartedly agreed with

  • When Chris Jericho returned to WWE, the two asked the higher-ups if they could still use the Shatter Machine, which they confirmed was completely okay

  • Jericho noted on Twitter about how they never asked for his permission to use it

  • Cash made a joke, which apparently ticked off Jericho at the time

  • Jericho brought up how NXT folks were stealing moves and he was in a bad mood while tweeting, but never held a grudge

  • When they all interacted, Cash noted how cool Jericho was to them

  • The finisher cannot be called The Shatter Machine

  • Dax noted his a favourite match was against Gable and Jordan in a two out of three falls match on a live event - Scott Hall was present that night and even put it over backstage

  • Dax did note the two out of three falls match against DIY will likely be their legacy in WWE/NXT

  • Cash could not pinpoint a favourite, but wishes many of the live event matches were aired on television - He later noted NXT TakeOver: Dallas was a special atmosphere while the DIY matches will be their most remembered

  • Jericho noted this was the perfect time to have their release granted since it opens up so many possibilities
