IMPACT Wrestling Results - 10-06-2020 - The Motor City Machine Guns vs Ace & Fulton

This week's edition of IMPACT! features the aftermath from VICTORY ROAD live on IMPACT Plus. We'll catch up with Rich Swann on his road to recovery as he prepares to challenge for the IMPACT World Championship at BOUND FOR GLORY. IMPACT World Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns face off against the team of Ace Austin & Madman Fulton. Knockouts No. 1 contender Kylie Rae will speak about her upcoming showdown with Deonna Purrazzo. EC3 has promised a funeral for the TNA World Championship, which has self-proclaimed Champion Moose on edge. Tommy Dreamer and Brian Myers collide in a rematch. Plus the Knockouts tag team division is on display, as Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan battle Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie.

The show begins with a recap of The North defeating Ace Austin & Madman Fulton last week and the ensuing scramble that occurred last week. The recap then shifts to the IMPACT World Championship match between Eric Young and Eddie Edwards at Victory Road this past Saturday and Rich Swann making the save from a post-match attack.

As always, our commentary team is Josh Matthews and Madison Rayne.

Singles Match – Brian Myers vs. Tommy Dreamer

Result: Tommy Dreamer wins via DQ when Myers attacks him with a kendo stick.

Thoughts: A rematch from Saturday night’s Victory Road special, in a post-match segment Dreamer promised that we would see the Innovator of Violence of old. The early part of the match is spent on the outside, with Myers dominating most of it. Commentary is really pushing the Mentor/Protégé relationship between the two and how Myers has been on the winning side of every match they’ve had thus far. I know Tommy is trying to do the same thing with the younger talent that Terry Funk once did with him and others in ECW, but I can’t quite say that it is working as well, but a lot of that could be related to the lack of a live crowd in the arena. Dreamer is finally able to put some offense together including the Dusty elbows and a cutter but it seems like Myers has an answer for everything Dreamer throws at him. At this point, all Dreamer has his heart and that can only go so far. Myers whiffs a huge elbow drop from the top and Tommy goes for the DDT into a reversal that he reverses and hits the move. Myers hits the Implant DDT (which I will always and forever call the Impaler thanks to Gangrel and No Mercy on the N64) but Dreamer kicks out. Myers gets the kendo stick but misses the strike leading into the Russian Leg Sweep with the cane. Myers talks him down but pokes him in the eyes and goes nuts with the kendo stick until security and Scott D’Amore talk him down. I can see this leading to a good ol’ fashioned Hardcore match at Bound For Glory for Tommy to officially put Myers over.

Josh and Madison run down the Bound For Glory card as it stands right now, as well as the rest of the card for tonight.

We see Moose looking under every nook and cranny in the gym and the parking garage, seemingly looking for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship ahead of the promised funeral by EC3 tonight.

Most of the WrestleHouse cast that is still involved with the John E. Bravo/Rosemary wedding are all gathered backstage when Bravo comes in and claims that after running the numbers the wedding is costing too much and he needs everyone to pitch in and help with some money. Fallah claims that as the best man he knows where he can get some money. The Deaners get into it with Johnny Swinger who claims he and his young boy Crazzy Steve (who reminds us he is actually 107 years old) can take them anytime. Bravo reminds them that the wedding is less than a month away and needs to know who is going to book the fondue fountain? I am just mystified that somehow with everything that has happened in 2020 we have two different wrestling companies running a ‘Best Man’ gimmick concurrently, although the edge goes to IMPACT as this storyline has been running for months.

Defeat Rohit Challenge Continues!

One of the low-key most entertaining parts of IMPACT, the Desi Hitman and X Division Champion Rohit Raju makes his way to the ring for the next iteration of the Defeat Rohit Challenge! He claims he is the most caring, sharing and giving champion in professional wrestling. He reminds the world that it is not his issue if nobody is able to take full advantage of the opportunities that he is giving out. The same as Victory Road, Willie Mack makes his way to the ring. Rohit reminds him that he already his opportunity and is no longer eligible for the Defeat Rohit challenge and Jordynne Grace answers the call! Real shades of WCW in 1997 here.

Singles Match - Rohit Raju (C) vs. Jordynne Grace

Result: Jordynne Grace wins via pinfall

Thoughts: Some incredible banter between Rohit and the referee. After refusing to give up the title Willie Mack grabs it on the outside leading to Grace rolling him up for the win. Following an announcement and celebration, it is announced that the match wasn’t for the title. Rohit kills it on the mic but runs into Scott D’Amore backstage who informs him at Bound For Glory he will defend against Willie Mack, Chris Bey, Trey Miguel, TJP and Jordynne Grace in a six-way scramble match. A fantastic segment all around finally setting up the big blowoff to Rohit’s shenanigans at Bound For Glory.

Backstage we see Hernandez walking with his big wad of money (is that the only reason he is still employed here?) and Fallah approaches for another arm-wrestling match. He spills coffee all over him and they bicker over where Hernandez’s office is.

Tag Team Match – XXXL vs. The Rascalz

Result: The Rascalz win via pinfall after hitting Hot Fire Flame on Larry.

Thoughts: A rematch of the opening match from Victory Road for another battle of two of the most entertaining teams in IMPACT. Larry D and Acey immediately attack taking Wentz out of the ring and then stretching Dez and flapjacking him as we go into the break. Back from break and Acey is continuing to beat the hell out of Dez who is trying to stay in one piece. Dez continuing to do his best Ricky Morton impression as he is worked over by both Larry D and Acey Romero. Wentz finally gets the hot tag and is able to take it to Larry D and even Acey on the apron. Much like on Saturday night we see some miscommunication between Acey and Larry leading to Hot Fire Flame for the pinfall victory.

Fallah sneaks into the bathroom where Hernandez is showering and steals away the wad of cash.

We get another update from Rich Swann’s rehab this time with Jimmy Jacobs speaking with Rich and his doctor confirming he is ready to go today. Out of nowhere a masked orderly attacks and it’s Eric Young attacking the challenger. He wraps his bad ankle and attacks it with a dumbbell before we fade to black.

Gia Miller is backstage with the IMPACT World Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns and they all discuss how dangerous everything around IMPACT seems to be very dangerous. They cut a promo on Austin and Fulton with Sabin comparing Fulton to being from the Borderlands games. They are interrupted by The Good Brothers and tensions are high. The Good Brothers tell the Machine Guns that they will be watching their backs to ensure they are good to go at Bound For Glory.

Knockouts Tag Team Match – Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie vs. Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan

Result: Rosemary & Taya win via pinfall when Rosemary pins Tasha Steelz.

Thoughts: The contrast between Rosemary and Taya’s entrances are stunning. I can only imagine how many fantasy bookers are putting Rosemary into the world of The Fiend right now. Fast-paced action between Taya and Hogan to start. Rosemary enters like a house of fire, delivering exploder suplexes to both of her opponents. Hogan and Steelz take control while we see Havok & Nevaeh watching the match from backstage. Taya finally gets the hot tag and goes full powerhouse on her opponents. Rosemary puts away Steelz with her version of the Wing Clipper. Another fine match helping to advance the storyline surrounding Rosemary.

Century Creed Training Gear

Tag Team Match – The Deaners vs. Johnny Swinger & Crazzy Steve

Result: The Deaners win via pinfall when Cody hits a DDT on Swinger.

Thoughts: Honestly, I’d be remiss not to mention the absolute hilarious entertainment that Johnny Swinger brings to everything he does. The Deaners offer Steve a beer which he tries to give to his monkey doll he brings with him everywhere. We get Swinger and Cousin Jake in the ring before Cody gets in there. This is purely a comedy match with Steve and Johnny Swinger going back and forth before Cody hits a big DDT for the win.

We go back to Saturday night at Victory Road with footage of Deonna Purrazzo breaking the arm of Susie following their match. Gia is now backstage with Kylie Rae finally showing some edge over having to see Susie get her arm broken again. Kimber Lee interrupts and mocks Kylie and continues to hint at the eventual return of Su Yung. Kylie beats down Lee then looks shocked at her own actions.

Scott D’Amore is backstage with Heath as they discuss all of the things Heath has done trying to get a job with IMPACT. Heath presents a contract that clearly is way above what D’Amore is thinking. Scott turns down the big-money contract and offers him the smaller deal. Discussions break down and D’Amore walks out. Heath gets into it with Rhino with Heath blaming him for this whole ordeal, mentioning how he was offered a new deal when he was on RAW with Drew but turned it down because ‘Terry’ told him he could do better, and now he is without a deal once again.

We see EC3 with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt telling Moose that he must break his attachment to the past and to the legacy of the TNA Title before dropping it off a bridge into the water below. “Free Moose.”

We see Ken Shamrock lamenting how Eddie Edwards didn’t deserve what he did to him while Sami Callihan taunts him and tells him he is turning into the Ken Shamrock of old. “45 Million Likes and Retweets!” he claims before Shamrock grabs him but Callihan sends him off on a staffer walking by who Shamrock decimates.

Josh Matthews runs down next week’s card including an update on Rich Swann, a triple threat Knockouts tag match between the teams of Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz, Havok & Nevaeh and Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie, Kimber Lee will face Kylie Rae and The Big LG will face Madman Fulton in singles competition.

Tag Team Match – Ace Austin & Madman Fulton vs. The Motor City Machine Guns

Result: The Motor City Machine Guns win via pinfall on Madman Fulton.

Thoughts: Absolute domination early on from the Tag Team Champions and god damn does Ace Austin do a killer job of selling and making their offense look even more devastating. The complexion of the match changes big time once Fulton gets in. I’ll be honest I didn’t think much of his time in NXT but he has really come into his own in IMPACT, especially with his tag team with Ace Austin. A beautiful snake eyes into Austin’s knees in the corner on Shelley. Some miscommunication between Austin and Fulton, while Shelley has a handful of hog meat (you read that right), gives the Machine Guns an opportunity to take back control of the match. As is expected, the match breaks down at the end with the Guns essentially have to chop Fulton down piece by piece with a double team chokeslam. Ethan Page and Josh Alexander of The North make their way to the ring and we get some absolute greatness from Ethan Page (I am serious when I say I could watch him yell at people all day long) but The Good Brothers make the save, leading to the Tag Champs pinning Fulton for the win. All four teams talk trash to one another as the show goes off the air.

Kyle’s Pick Of The Week

I have to go to the main event. Even with the expected shenanigans of all four teams being involved, the match itself is a damned good one. Shelley and Sabin always know what they are doing, Ace Austin is a star just waiting for that breakthrough moment and Madman Fulton has quietly turned into one of the best big men in the business.
