My Top 5 Favourite Randy Savage Matches of All-Time

The Macho Man Randy Savage would have turned 66 last November, but sadly, he passed away back in 2011 at age 58 due to a heart attack.

He was undoubtedly one of greatest superstars in the history of professional wrestling and to me, not only of my top favourites, but a hero. In a community full of larger than life personalities, he stood out amongst them all.

In honour of the Macho Man, I’m providing you with a list of my Top 5 Favourite Randy Savage matches of all time.

Honourable Mention:

Randy Savage vs Ric Flair (Wrestlemania 8, April 5, 1992)

Number 5

Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Diamond Dallas Page (Halloween Havoc, October 26, 1997)

  • This Las Vegas Death Match was chaotic, violent and incredibly entertaining. Without this feud, it’s highly doubtful that DDP would have become a main event caliber performer.

Number 4

Randy Savage vs. Hulk Hogan (Wrestlemania 5, April 2, 1989)

  • One of the greatest feuds in professional wrestling history and also know for being arguably Hogan’s best quality match.  Randy had carried the torch for an entire year and somehow managed to fill Hogan’s massive shoes.

Number 3

Randy Savage vs. Bret Hart (Saturday Night’s Main Event, November, 28, 1987)

  • This was a breakthrough moment for Bret Hart as a singles competitor and much of that should be credited to Randy Savage.

Number 2

Randy Savage vs The Ultimate Warrior (WrestleMania 7, March 24, 1991)

  • Far and away, the greatest match of the Ultimate Warrior’s career. Despite multiple drops, the Warrior managed to overcome the odds and get his arm raised. Savage was then forced to retire. Afterward, Sensational Sherri tore into Savage, prompting a returning Miss Elizabeth to run in and make the save. It was one of the most emotional moments in pro-wrestling history.

Number 1

Randy Savage Vs. Ricky Steamboat (WrestleMania 3, March 29, 1987)

  • A masterclass of storytelling that was meticulously scripted move by move, second by second. While Andre vs Hogan headlined the show, this was the people’s main event. It was a fast-paced match full of many near falls that stole the show and has been hailed as one of the greatest matches in Wrestlemania history.
